Stuff We Like: It's a Major Award!
Everyone in the family has to put up with Kris' multiple viewings of the movie Christmas Story this time of year. Now, thanks to her mom and step dad, our new bonus room window is awash "with the soft glow of electric sex."
When asked about it, Kris stated it was a "major award," something about "mind power"and that it must be Italian.

Frankenberry!
How sad is it that I get excited when they release this cereal for Halloween? It's not fall without Franken (and Boo) Berry as well as reading the book A Night in the Lonesome October by Roger Zelazny.

Luke's Bullet

We took Luke to the vet this weekend to have a lump on his leg checked out. Obviously, given what happened to Josie and the lump on her leg, we're kinda spastic about getting these things checked out.
To our surprise, after the doc tried to aspirate the lump, she concluded it was metal in nature, and took x-rays to confirm. As you can see, Luke has some sort of metal object lodge in a skin fold under his leg. Luke was a rescue dog, and was sorely neglected from the reports we got from those who rescued him. Now it is becoming clear how crappy a life he had before.

Greatest Wedding Buffet Ever!
Kris and I were honored to attend our good friends Molly and Jon's wedding reception Friday night. They had a kick-@$$ DJ, great dinner with lots of laughs and fun people to hang out with. The coolest thing of the night (besides the 8 different dessert choices instead of wedding cake) was the candy buffet. Everyone was encouraged to fill bags of candy to snack on at the event as well as load up for the ride home. Very cool idea!

Stargate Premiere
What an incredible evening! Watching the premiere of the new Stargate direct-to-DVD movie on the deck of the USS Midway was the coolest event I have ever been to! (I can't upload photos of the event from my camera, so check out Pop Culture Zoo's photo gallery here.)
The deck of the aircraft carrier was set up with a large screen and completely surrounded the bleacher seating area with speakers. There were several concession stands set up serving candy, popcorn, pretzels, and drinks. It got a little chilly on the deck as the movie played, but the story was so compelling that you hardly noticed it.
Afterwards, there was a private reception below deck where the cast and crew mingled with the guests. I had the opportunity to meet my TV girlfriend Amanda Tapping, and made a complete fool of myself as I stammered some seemingly stalker- like introduction: "I'mahugefanandIloveyourshowandyourcharacterandIthinkyouaregreat" or some such drivel. I must have come across like that awkward Chris Farley character from SNL. Amanda was very gracious and posed with me for a picture.
All in all, a very cool event and a spectacular movie!

Quick run-through...
It's premiere night for exhibitor/press and it is incredibly crowded! I popped in to see Virgin and DC comics before heading out to dinner with the team.
The adventure begins...
I'm about to board the plane and fly to comic book nirvana! As I look around the terminal, it is clear that there are a lot of fellow nerds also making the trek.
I am happy to report that all 20 or so fanboys and girls are wearing their normal clothes (no costumes).

Old School Fort Awesome

Last night the former owners of our house and their now-grown kids walked through the place to see the remodel. It was cool to hear their stories of living in the house and what they remembered about it. It was also interesting to watch their reaction to what has changed through this latest remodel.
They were kind enough to share some pictures of the house from their archives. Over the years they had seen two major remodels: one in the early '70's and one in the late '80's. The pictures above show the house as it was when Jim bought it in 1967 and then the first big remodel done around '72.
